"We may never be strong enough to be entirely nonviolent in thought, word and deed. But we must keep nonviolence as our goal and make strong progress towards it."
— Mahatma Gandhi
The Gandhian Centre for Peace Studies and Nonviolent Communication has been established at Asian Law College with the objective of planning and carrying out activities for the promotion of Gandhian ideals and philosophy. It also aims to encourage and promote Gandhian perspectives on education, and to facilitate education for peace, ecological security, equality, and justice.
The Centre has been established through an institutional collaboration with Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS), New Delhi. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 18th November 2021, through which a wide array of opportunities has been made available to students, including orientation courses, certificate courses, research programmes, cultural programmes, guest lectures, and several other activities.
With the establishment of this Centre, Asian Law College became the second institution in India, after National Law University, Ranchi, to have established such a Centre.
The Gandhian Centre for Peace Studies and Nonviolent Communication offers a six-month certificate course on Nonviolent Communication, provided jointly by GSDS and Bharathiar University. This certificate course is available to students as an optional course, and the first batch of enrolled students successfully completed the course in the preceding academic year.
Under the aegis of the Gandhian Centre for Peace Studies and Nonviolent Communication, students were also afforded the opportunity of an educational trip to Gandhi Darshan, where they gained a meaningful insight into the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi through the Gandhian Museum.
